With consistent fine weather for months on end comes a line-up of fantastic outdoor events showcasing world-class entertainment set against some of the most stunning natural backdrops you will ever see.
Community events are definitely worth a look, from dusty rodeos, to colourful festivals. Odds are you will meet friendly locals who will be more than happy to give you a genuine insight into their town’s activities. Time your visit to coincide with natural events such as turtle nesting, whale watching or the incredible Staircase to the Moon in Broome.

Here’s a quick round-up of what to expect in 2017:
- Karijini Experience (April 11-15) held on the traditional lands of the Banjima people is a celebration of environmental protection, connection and culture.
- Shinju Fringe (May 12-14) is a festival of the pearl in Broome celebrating the town’s Chinese heritage.
- Argyle Diamonds Ord Valley Muster, Kununurra (May 19-28) features more than 30 spectacular events across 10 days, including the Durack Homestead dinner, the Kimberley Moon Experience and the Ord Valley Muster Rodeo.
- Polo Cable Beach, Broome (May 20-21), is Australia’s original beach polo tournament. You can watch from the sands or buy a ticket to the VIP marquee.
- Kununurra Agricultural Show (July 14-15) is the biggest and best show in the region.
- Cossack Art Awards 2017 (July 23-August 13) have grown from humble beginnings to become the richest acquisitive art award in regional Australia. Set amid the historic buildings of a heritage-listed ghost town, the art awards attract thousands of people every year. The town comes alive with hundreds of vibrant artworks representing the very best artistic talent across the Pilbara region and Australia.

- Lake Argyle Adventure Race (September 1-3) is a swim, run, mountain bike and paddle adventure in the remote East Kimberley.
- 2017 Outback Fusion Festival, Newman (September 8-10), celebrates the cultural diversity of the Pilbara.
