TRAVEL to the southern Indian state of Kerala yet only be only a stone’s throw from Perth’s Swan River, as Elizabeth Quay lights up to celebrate the Indian festival of Diwali.
Dancers and performers representing Kerala take centre stage at this year’s Swan Festival of the Lights – a three-day event marking Diwali, an ancient Hindu festival of light celebrated annually by millions of Indians around the world.
The festival is being held at the newly-opened quay, where a colourfully dressed Kathakali dance troupe will perform and a troupe from Kerala will demonstrate the dynamic martial art of kalaripayattu.
As well as a range of Indian snacks and street food there will be cooking, music and dance workshops, and family-friendly activities.
Make sure to stay around for the awesome evening fireworks!
