MAN-sized lanterns decorated in yarn and fibre will light up the night and there will be street theatre, workshops and street theatre when Maleny hosts its first Knitfest Yarn and Fibre Festival from June 10-12.
The Sunshine Coast hinterland town's popular streetscape will be wrapped in art as the festival team yarn bombs trees, buildings and inanimate objects.
There will also be workshops, master classes, guest speakers, knitting for causes groups, forums, music, craft and suitcase markets, trade stalls, demonstrations, competitions an displays.
Visitors can ride the Knitfest Magic Bus as it weaves its way around the main attractions in the township as well as taking visitors to Maleny Cheese, Maleny Mountain Wines and the spectacular Maleny Botanic Gardens.
Volunteers preparing for the festival include older people receiving community aged care and living in local residential aged care facilities, who have been busy making knitted pieces for the festival at home with donated wool.
