In an Australian first, a manufactured home development has been attached to a fully accredited residential aged care facility that can also provide home care services, creating a 21st-century solution for seniors.
St Ann’s Living offers manufactured homes that are architect-designed, customisable and designed for people approaching an active retirement looking for financial security and the comfort of knowing their needs will be met.
“St Ann’s Living is not a retirement village – this is a genuine alternative for people on lower to middle incomes who are planning for their later years and looking for security of tenure,” said St Ann’s chief executive Susan Parr.
She said it was an expansion of the pioneering Verve development in Old Beach, which opened in 2011 and quickly became a model for aged care providers.
Susan said St Ann’s Living homes were affordable because they separated ownership of the land from ownership of the home, so anyone buying a home entered into a 49-year lease for exclusive occupancy.
“With no land to purchase and no rates to pay, this makes your home more affordable and frees up more of your money for other things, like enjoying an active life.
“This is a cost-effective opportunity to be part of a secure and caring community, which can provide you with a range of services as you age, including a place in a fully accredited residential aged care facility, should you ever need it.”
To create the project, a partnership has been formed with the iRetire Living Group, which guarantees all homes will be built in Tasmania, providing work for local businesses.
St Ann’s Living is located in Old Beach, on Hobart’s eastern shore.
