A new report published by Tourism Research Australia shows we're seeing more of our own country.
According to the report, domestic travel with overnight trips grew by 5 per cent in the 2014-15 financial year while day trips grew by 2 per cent. In that period 83.2 million domestic overnight trips were taken while $55.4 billion was spent by Aussies on domestic trips in total.
Interstate travel was also up by 7 per cent to 27 million.
"These trips are important for domestic tourism as they typically involve longer stays and visits to more locations," the report read.
The report shows it's great time to start exploring our own backyard right now.
"The lower value of the Australian dollar may encourage more Australians to holiday at home," the report read.
Overseas travel remained steady over the year.
