This fundraising event provides owners of cars manufactured from 1963-77 with an opportunity to showcase their cars in a seven-day cruise throughout the state.
The event has been held in South Australia since 2012 and has raised more than $1.1 million to support people with blood cancer.
This year is the first time the event will be held in WA and the foundation wants the community to join in. From October 24-30, the cars will embark on a leisurely run leaving and returning from Fremantle, giving car owners the chance to show off their cars to communities spanning the South West, Great Southern and Wheatbelt. “We invite car clubs and car owners to sign up and register. It will be an iconic event for car owners from this era and with places limited to 50 muscle cars, it is an event not to be missed,” said foundation general manager Andrew York.
“In WA, we aim to raise $230,0000 from this event, to invest in the provision of free accommodation for families from regional WA who need to relocate to Perth for blood cancer treatment.”
The registration fee of $1200 per person covers six nights’ accommodation, breakfasts, dinners, motor sport, car livery, and overnight security for the vehicles.
Registrants are then required to fundraise a minimum of $4000 per car to be eligible to participate.
There are three places open for “special interest” cars to participate (as determined by the event organisers).
Modern muscle cars and other racing vehicles will be considered for entry.
Andrew said entrants will travel along almost 2000km of bitumen roads through a broad sweep of towns in the state’s south, enjoying not only the hospitality and scenery but mixing the with other enthusiasts.
It is not a competition event, he said, but a “week-long cruise event and opportunity to show off your car to the wider communities spanning across WA”.
The run incorporates dedicated controlled motorsport events including a track day at Barbagallo Raceway, hill climb at Mount Clarence (Albany) and drags at Kwinana Motorplex.
There will be various events and sightseeing opportunities each day of the run as it heads south through Busselton, Margaret River and Albany and then north to Collie, Beverley and New Norcia.
The last few days will be spent in Mandurah and then in Collie at the drags before the presentation night in Fremantle.
