As part of the week, the GI Cancer Institute will host an Engage community forum at the Hawthorn Arts Centre, Burwood Road, Hawthorne, 6.30-9pm on April 28 and at the Epping Club in Sydney from 6.30-9pm on April 30.
Previous successful forums have been held in Melbourne, Adelaide, Sydney, Brisbane, Canberra, Perth and Bundaberg.
The forum will provide easy-to-understand information about GI cancer prevention; advice and information from clinicians and survivors; information about the latest cutting-edge research; information on the benefits of clinical trials and how to access them; and a chance to learn about support resources.
Despite the fact that one in 10 people are diagnosed with GI cancer in Australia, there are very few occasions when those affected can get together to share their experiences and stories of hope in a non-clinical setting.
Survivors, patients and carers, or anyone interested in learning about gastro-intestinal cancers, can register to attend the free event by calling 1300-666-769 or at www.gicancer.org.au/register
