Good Price Pharmacy Warehouse in conjunction with Australian Hearing are providing free hearing screening tests during June.
"Hearing loss is a natural part of the ageing process and over half the population aged 60-70 years have hearing loss," said pharmacist Carolyn Clementson.
"An estimated 3.5 million Australians suffer from varying degrees of hearing loss and only 10-20 per cent of people who could benefit from a hearing aid actually wear them.
"Hearing loss can have a massive impact on people's lives both socially and professionally. The hearing impaired experience higher rates of unemployment and an overall reduction in the quality of life which can lead to isolation and depression," she said.
The most significant cause of hearing loss in Australia is exposure to excessive noise attributing to 37 per cent of all cases. (Access Economics)
Fifty five per cent of Australian war veterans have reported hearing loss and Aussie farmers are also likely to suffer from premature hearing loss through occupational noise exposure. However only 55 per cent wear hearing protection.
"Our free hearing tests are suitable for anyone over 21 years and are part of our new health programs and services that we offer, designed to support the ongoing health of our customers," said Ms Clementson.
