Weeds will flourish as the weather warms so keep on top of them by hand or with a weed control product and don't forget paths and the lawn.
Ask your local garden centre for advice on what products to use for your specific weed problems.
It's also time to start the herb garden - basil, dill, thyme and rocket can all be sown and planted in early spring. It's best to start coriander from seed as it doesn't take well to being transplanted.
Spring is naturally the time to think about the home vegie patch as it's the season for sowing and planting all the lovely warm season vegies such as tomatoes, sweet corn, beans, capsicums and egg plants, followed by pumpkins, zucchinis, squash, cucumbers and melons.
Lawn care takes on an importance as the weather warms. Feeding and treating with wetting agents will help ensure healthy new growth. Spiking the lawn with a fork will aerate the soil and hollows can be filled by topdressing with a sandy mix.
Once again ask your local garden centre for advice if you notice any insect damage.
Most native plants will benefit from a light pruning so take advantage of any slight lull in blooming and don't forget to fertilise.
Don't forget your potted plants either. Remove old potting mix and replace with fresh mix or, if you think the plant has outgrown it's pot, treat it to a new and bigger one. Always use a premium quality potting mix.
Remember that potting mix contains micro-organisms so wear gloves and, if you suffer from any respiratory problems, wear a mask.
