THEY serve up hundreds of meals every day. Now the volunteers at Meals on Wheels Queensland are attempting to set a national record.
The teams at Meals on Wheels Holland Park and other sites across the state will attempt to set the record for producing the most community meals in five hours to celebrate National Meals on Wheels Day on August 30.
The organisation's state manager David Bannister said he was confident the organisation will set an impressive national record that will be tough to beat.
"We are really excited about the world record attempt but in reality this is what our volunteers are completing on any given day," Mr Bannister said.
"Meals on Wheels services across the state prepare and deliver an incredible amount of nourishing meals to community members from Aurukun to Annerley. The record attempt is really just an opportunity to showcase how amazing our volunteers are and how much of a difference services are making locally."
Every year 15,000 dedicated volunteers and staff provide two million meals to 40,000 people in towns across Australia.
Mr Bannister said it was more than just a meal delivery service, with volunteers strengthening the community by providing support to a diverse range of clients.
"Meals on Wheels is completely run by the community, for the community and I really encourage those wanting to meet other caring people, make new friends and make a positive contribution in their local area to contact their local Meals on Wheels service," he said.
