WE’VE thought as much for a while, but now it has been confirmed: Centrelink’s News for Seniors glossy magazine is no more.
The magazine – which went from quarterly and then to biannually – was last published in January 2016.
So how will payment recipients be able to keep up with the latest payment rates and news from Centrelink? Through a range of channels according to a statement issued by the department.
“We will continue to write directly to people about major changes to payments and services, and engage with them through other communication channels,” it says.
“These include our new Seniors Update Facebook and Twitter accounts, monthly News for Older Australians emails, recorded phone messaging and the media.”
The statement says Centrelink makes every effort to reach older Australians via non-digital means, including radio and newspapers.
“Our Financial Information Service is also available to help people make informed decisions about investment and financial issues. The service is available by phone, appointment and through seminars held around the country.”
It continues: “According to a 2016 Sensis Social Media Report, over 60 per cent of those aged between 50-64 years, and more than 40 per cent of people aged over 65 years who go online, are accessing social networking sites.”
The statement says more information about the Financial Information Service is available at humanservices.gov.au/fis
