WESTERN Australia’s newest aged care facility, Bethanie Gwelup, has taken out a top prize at the inaugural Property Council of Australia National Retirement Living Awards.
The Bethanie Gwelup Aged Care and Assisted Living Campus received the CSR Hebel Award for Innovation for its use of technology to integrate traditionally separate independent living and aged care operations as one smooth-running site.
The state-of-the-art lifestyle apartment and residential care complex also received the prestigious Urban Development Institute of Australia Award for the Best Seniors Living Project in September, just a few months after opening.
The “campus style” model, consisting of 62 independent living apartments and a 112-bed aged care facility, allows residents to access different levels of care on the same site.
The ground floor houses a secure dementia-specific facility.
Property Council of Australia executive director retirement living, Ben Myers, said the model enabled residents to have more control over their future and how they want to live.
“Senior Australians have an expectation that when they move to a retirement village, it is the last move they make in their life,” Mr Myers said. “The Bethanie campus model enables people to make that move with certainty, knowing their home can be adapted to their changing needs.”
