A NEW 100-bed residential aged care facility in Perth is just one of several developments underway by aged care provider Juniper in a bid to meet the growing demand for services in Western Australia.
Construction has started on a new facility in the Perth suburb of Martin, as part of the WA-based company's bid to double its capacity to respond to what it says is a growing community need for aged care services.
Juniper chief executive Vaughan Harding described the project as a "significant investment".
"This exciting development will bring high quality residential accommodation, designed to provide a full continuum of care to frail, older Western Australians," he said.
He said the building is designed to complement the area's semi-rural character with a special emphasis on the site's historic use for horse agistment.
This theme will be reflected in the architecture of the building and its materials, and other proposed treatments such as exterior fencing and a planned central entrance artwork.
Crothers Construction will build the facility, on the corner of Gosnells Road West and Lewis Road, is expected to be finished by spring 2018.
Meanwhile a new aged care hub for older people seeking residential and community care services in Kununurra is taking shape in East Kimberly.
The $11.5 million multipurpose project, co-funded by Juniper and the Commonwealth, combines a 30-bed residential aged care facility and community care services in a modern building specially designed for local conditions and climate.
Its amenities include accommodation, and alfresco areas, a medical consulting room and nurses' treatment room for residents and community clients and there are plans for five onsite staff accommodation units.
Construction started in April and the facility is planned for completion in early 2018.
In Albany, construction of a multi-purpose centre is underway and in Menora, 40 retirement apartments over three levels at Juniper Elimatta Retirement Living is expected to be finished later this year.
Demolition of the Juniper Chrystal Halliday residential aged care facility in Karrinyup will make way for a modern 120-bed facility.
