SO YOU'VE had your flu jab and are feeling bullet-proof as we enter influenza season. Here's another handy tip to help you and those around you make it through: wash your hands!
Don't Spread Flu - It's In Your Hands is a NSW government that urges people to focus on four simple steps in a bid to avoid a repeat of last year's epidemic, which led to 128,000 people becoming infected.
- Get your flu shot
- Cough and sneeze into your elbow
- Clean your hands.
- Stay home when sick
NSW Health Minister Brad Hazzard said the campaign would share some straightforward tips on how to limit the spread of the virus and save lives.
"More than 650 people died in NSW from Influenza last year. It should be a wake-up call to the community to take steps to protect yourself and your loved ones."
The government will also introduce UV light germ detectors at transport hubs and shopping centres so people can test the cleanliness of their hands.
Flu shots are free for pregnant women, children up to six years old, people over 65, Aboriginal people and people with existing medical conditions such as asthma, diabetes and heart problems.
