The South Australian Government is rolling out its new Cost of Living Concession payment to eligible low income earners.
From September 21 more than 140,000 low-income households began receiving cheques as part of the program.
Communities Minister Zoe Bettison said the payment was introduced to replace the council rate concession which was cut by the federal government.
"If you previously received a council rates concession as a home owner, and receive a pension, Centrelink payment or are a low-income earner, you will automatically receive the new payment," she said.
The concession is worth up to $200 a year for people who received the former council rates concession of $190.
Up to $100 a year is available for pensioners who are tenants, while self-funded retirees with a Commonwealth Seniors Health Card will receive up to $100 a year whether they are tenants or home owners.
More than 40,000 households applied for the new concession since July 1.
Applications for this year's payment will be accepted until October 31. Applications submitted after then will be considered for the following financial year's concession.
