THE FORCE will be strong when Symphony in the City brings free classical music to people in Perth and beyond this month.
Featuring the West Australian Symphony Orchestra (WASO) and Chorus, the Lotterywest Symphony in the City outdoor concert at Langley Park will be broadcast live to regional venues and gatherings across WA on December 16.
The annual community event attracts over 20,000 picnic goers to the open-air setting in Perth, where they can enjoy well-known classics, film music and an explosive finale of fireworks.
Audiences can expect music from Star Wars, Puccini's Turandot, Strauss' Die Fledermaus and Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture while soloists will include violinists Laurence Jackson (WASO Concertmaster) and Zak Rountree, and renowned tenor Paul O'Neill.
Guy Noble conducted the first Symphony in the City in 2007 and returns this year to lead the orchestra and chorus in 2017. Pre-concert activities at Langley Park will begin from 5pm including face-painting, balloon artistry and live jazz from 5.45pm.
The concert will be broadcast live onto screens at Albany Entertainment Centre, Kalgoorlie Arts Centre and Margaret River Cultural Centre from 7.10pm on December 16. Tickets are free, book through the individual venues.
