THE Archibald Prize exhibition will open in the Victorian city of Geelong on October 28.
Art lovers can make a weekend of it with plenty of places to stay, including Vue Apartments, and great restaurants to choose from such as Alma, a new South American inspired restaurant, and Wah Wah Gee, a new Asian waterfront restaurant.
While in Geelong, art-lovers should visit Metropolis Gallery to view the range of Australian paintings and limited edition prints by local and national artists.
This month the Michael Leunig - Recent, Rare and Classic Works on Paper exhibition is showing.
Other things to do include a self-guided or guided tour of the Geelong Library and Heritage Centre. You can research your family history in its Heritage Reading Room.
A visit to Geelong wouldn't be complete without a stop off at the Wool Museum to see The Bald Archies. Created in 1994 as a spoof of the Archibald Prize, this exhibition provides artists of all styles and standards an opportunity to create portrait paintings of humour, dark satire or caricature.
The Art of Wool is also showing until November 19. This exhibition shows the significance of wool in the artistic and design imagination of Australia from the 19th century through to today.
The Archibald exhibition runs until December 10.
