WINTER woollies will take root in south-east Queensland as yarnbombers take over the trees in Warwick.
More than 100 deciduous trees will be kitted out in colourful woolly attire for the annual Jumpers and Jazz in July festival.
The event – now in its 14th year – attracts tens of thousands of visitors every year, with everyone from professional artists to crochet buffs and knitting groups designing jumpers for the town’s trees.
The festival is co-ordinated by Warwick Art Gallery, which will also hold workshops including an extreme knitting class by Sydney fibre artist and festival judge Jacqui Fink.
This year’s theme for the yarnbombers is “meander”.
The festival started in 2004 inspired by Warwick Art Gallery’s idea to personalise the cold winter streets with textile art wrapped around bare winter trees.
Weekends are very popular with visitors who enjoy the busy street vibe and jazz performances. There will be jazz at the gallery and in the local park as well as craft markets.
The festival runs from July 20-30.
