The former Australian swimming champion is still a golden girl decades after her triumphs in the pool, radiating health, positivity and passion for creating the best of life regardless of age.
The author, sought-after motivational speaker and health and wellness entrepreneur is embracing what she describes as the last third of her life, and wants to live it with as much energy and vitality as she can, while encouraging others to do the same.
"I don't feel 62," said Lisa, adding with a laugh that some days she wakes up with aches and pains and feels more like 100; as well as still going through menopause.
Young at heart
"I still feel young at heart, I still like to do fun things and I'm still as busy as ever. I guess one day I might feel like I want to slow down and retire, whatever that means, but I've heard stories of people retiring and then getting bored. I don't think I'll ever get bored and I've always got something to do. I like working."
However the last three and a half years have been a dark period in Lisa's life after the death of her daughter Jaime and her mother Pat.
Lisa told The Senior her challenge had been to work through the grief and trauma.
"The last three years have been horrendous. It's a loss which drains your soul," she said, "and the challenge is to accept that life goes on.
"It starts to make you ask where am I now and where do I want to be in 20 or 30 years? The choices we make now are some of the most important as they will help us get through these years with optimal health and wellbeing because nothing is perfect and nothing is easy, and years and years of living, working, trauma and neglect catch up with us so we need to manage that as best we can."
Lisa advises taking stock of where you are and where you would like to be and what you need to do to get there, and asking what sort of person you are, what sort of legacy you want to have and who are the people you want to have around you.
Make every day count
"My coach said to me just two weeks before he died. 'Lisa make every day count'.
The book Happy Healthy You is named after the wellness website, Lisa and Jeff created.
"We talk to women every day," said Lisa and we know the highs and lows of women's lives and I wanted to condense that and put it into a simple format that people could read and perhaps have that lightbulb moment - now I know why I need to get sunshine every day, or put lemon in my water."
The book is divided into three sections, the philosophy, a seven day program and a section on recipes.
Lisa who published a memoir in 2022 believes that everyone has a book in them and encourages people of her age and older to write their own memoir. "Then there's a history of your life because people really have very interesting lives and it's not often they get to tell their story."
Lisa Curry is the co-author of Happy Healthy You, HarperCollins Publishers, $45.00, available now.
