What would you do in an emergency?
The Red Cross is urging people to make a plan in case of disaster as part of this week's Emergency Preparedness Week.
Bushfires, floods and storms are common in Australia and can be devastating, but being prepared can make it easier to recover.
The Red Cross' RediPlan is designed to help people to prepare for the worst in four simple steps.
It encourages people to learn about common risks, make an emergency survival kit, protect the important things and create a personalised emergency plan.
A RediPlan can even assist in the case of a personal crisis, such as a family death.
Red Cross' NSW director Jody Broun said she has heard many regrets about not being better prepared.
"Too many conversations after an emergency begin with 'I wish I had'," she said.
"People wish they'd taken the kids' baby photographs, kept their passports safe, upped their insurances, or looked in on their neighbours."
She said the free RediPlan guide can help spare people from much of the grief and trauma after a disaster.
"We know that the better you are prepared, the better you will cope," she said.
