THE Commonwealth Games 2018 Baton has begun its long journey to Australia - and baton carriers are now being sought across the nation.
On March 13, the Queen placed her message to the Commonwealth inside the GC2018 Baton destined for the Gold Coast and the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games on the evening of April 4, 2018.
The baton relay spans 388 days and 230,000km and will achieve two records - it will be the longest and the most accessible relay in Commonwealth Games history.
The baton will arrive in Australia on December 25 - 100 days out from the opening ceremony - and will touch down in Queensland about a month out from the Games.
More than 3800 baton carriers will be needed on the journey around Australia and applications are now open.
Baton bearers must represent the spirit of the Commonwealth and inspire others to greatness.
Applications are open to people of all abilities, and running is not essential. Special adaptors have been made for those in wheelchairs or who may not be able to carry the baton.
