THE Coober Pedy Opal Festival is ready to rock the town's foundations with its birthday celebrations and promises to deliver a cracking good time.
The festival is marking its 30th year and comedy duo The Crack Up Sisters will lend their wits and whips to the celebrations.
Traditionally taking place over Easter, this year's festival was moved back due to the excessive early-autumn heat and will take place from June 22-24.
The festival will launch on the evening of June 22 with a spectacular event at Coober Pedy racecourse, featuring performances by The Crack Up Sisters and Joe Ahern. It will also honour local
students for achievements in the agriculture and hospitality fields and will be capped off with a fireworks display.
Saturday's festivities start at Coober Pedy Golf Club, which will host the first of two open days in the morning, followed by a street parade at noon.
Following the parade, a street festival will feature performances, market stalls, games, competitions and demonstrations.
The evening ends with a bush dance at Coober Pedy Drive In hosted by the Crack Up Sisters and followed by a screening of Grease.
Celebrations extend into Sunday with the second day of the golf club's open weekend, Coober Pedy Motor Club's open day and a performance by Sarah Leete at Coober Pedy RSL.
