CLASSIC Yass returns to Banjo Paterson Park in the centre of Yass this month, with this year’s special guest being Shannons Super Rig.
Comprising an impressive 21-metre long truck and trailer unit, the Super Rig unfolds into an eight metre by eight metre state-of-the-art hospitality, entertainment and information centre.
Fresh from its first complete overhaul, the vehicle has large plasma screens, driving simulators, interactive exhibits, Sony Playstation gaming consoles, memorabilia displays, a web kiosk, outdoor events stage, viewing deck with barbecue facilities and, of course, the Shannons Goggomobil.
The event itself includes the Classic Pre-1980 Motor Show featuring cars and bikes dating back to the early 1900s, the Vintage Fashion Parade, dance demonstrations from Canberra’s Swing Katz, markets and all the thrills and spills of the Billy Cart Derby.
There will be plenty of live music, with crowd favourite The Hips – featuring Rockpile Jones and Paul McCann from Ol’ 55 – back to perform favourite songs from the ’50s, ’60s and ’70s from 11am on Saturday.
The pair will back up at Yass Soldiers Club for a concert on behalf of local charity CanAssist at 8pm; tickets $10 (pre-booked during Classic Yass) or $15 (at door).
