IT'S TIME to lift the lid on the world of public toilets to see who is thinking outside the thunderbox.
The 2018 International Toilet Tourism Awards will acknowledge and reward various bowled designs from around the world.
The inaugural awards took place last year and organisers are set to go ahead with number two.
An initiative of MyTravelresearch.com the awards aim to showcase tourist destinations with clean, creative, quirky public toilets, which help to boost their area's image and/or generate tourist dollars.
The 2018 awards were launched in February at the Southern Highlands Welcome Centre in Mittagong, NSW, which won the award for Best Economic Contributor last year.
Categories are: best location, best design, quirkiest toilet experience, best accessible toilet, sanitation progress and an overall winner, which will ultimately claim the grand throne.
Awards co-founder Carolyn Childs said smarter destinations around the world were realising the public toilet had power as a promotional tool.
"There are brilliant examples around the world. We want to recognise the best of them for a job well done," she said.
Organisers hope to be bogged down by nominations, which are open until May 1 and can be lodged at the official website.
The winners will be announced on June 4.
