CRUISE Express has crafted a new cruise for crochet lovers from Sydney to Brisbane in October.
French for "hooked needle" and dating back to the 1820s, crochet is enjoying a revival as a simple activity that calms the nerves, expresses creativity, produces beautiful designs and forges friendships.
Designed for both novice and skilled crocheters, the Crochet Cruise on board the deluxe Celebrity Solstice sails on a 10-night round-trip from Sydney on October 29, with five relaxing days at sea and four ports of call - Newcastle, Airlie Beach in the Whitsundays, Cairns and Brisbane.
Led by two of Australia's top crochet teachers, Lynda Tomkins from Crochet Australia and "Loopy Stitch" instagrammer Emily Littlefair, the cruise will offer workshops where passengers will make one of six designs they can take home. Participants will also crochet squares for large Dream Weaver blankets that will be auctioned after the cruise to raise money for Learning Links, a charity that assists children with learning problems.
The exclusive crochet cruise package includes a welcome kit valued at $250 containing everything needed to get started, including yarn, hooks, needles, cutters and patterns. As an added bonus, those who book before June
30 will receive $200 worth of mixed hue yarn. "Hook-up" get-togethers and events including a cocktail function and fashion parade will provide more entertainment for travellers.
Fares, including the crochet kit and onboard workshops, are from $2890 per person, twin share. Non-crocheting partners are welcome.
