MORE than 400 historic racing cars and motorbikes from the 1920s to the 1980s at the one racetrack, revved up and ready, can mean just one thing: it’s Historic Winton time.
Australia’s longest- running, all-historic motor race meeting presents two big days of non-stop racing on May 26-27.
The long weekend of historic motoring begins on the Friday (May 25) with the Benalla and District Classic Car and Motorbike Tour, which is great fun for both participants and spectators.
The racing begins on the Saturday morning at Winton Motor Motor Raceway near Benalla in Victoria.
Special anniversaries to be celebrated this year include the Ford Model T (110 years), Morris Minor 1928-1934 (90 years), and Ford Prefect, Humber Super Snipe, AJS Matchless Silver Streak, Peugeot 202, Standard Eight, Volkswagen Beetle and Wolseley 14/60 (80 years).
A special feature will be a display of veteran, vintage and classic police cars, fire engines, ambulances and other emergency vehicles.
There will also be vintage speedway cars and bikes, micro cars, pedal cars, pushbikes, dragsters, veteran and vintage cars and motorcycles, vintage buses, work vehicles, caravans and speed boats.
The Shannons Classic Car Park will feature car and bike clubs and special interest vehicles. Historic Winton is conducted by the Austin 7 Club.
