SOUTH Australia's favourite foodie, Maggie Beer, will be the star attraction at this year's Kangaroo Island Food Safari.
The event, at Southern Ocean Lodge, will also feature lodge chefs past and present.
Highlights include a dinner created by The Lane Vineyard's executive chef James Brinklow, with wines from the acclaimed Adelaide Hills winery.
Long lunches are also on the menu, including among the vineyards at Islander Estate, at Kate Sumner's Kangaroo Island Source at Penneshaw, with Hannaford and Sachs at Lifetime Retreats on the north coast, and a long table lunch hosted by Maggie at Southern Ocean Lodge.
Island expeditions include visits to the Island Pure sheep dairy, Huxtable's free range geese farm, Island Beehive for pure Ligurian honey and the groundbreaking Aquaculture Skills Centre at Parndana School where senior students produce sustainable barramundi and herbs for supply to the lodge. There are oyster tastings at American River Oysters, and wild gin tastings at KI Spirits.
Running over seven nights from July 28-August 4, the KI Food Safari is priced from $8400 per person twin share including seven nights at Southern Ocean Lodge, return flights between Adelaide and Kangaroo Island, a daily itinerary of excursions, produce tastings and demonstrations, all dining and premium beverages.
