When you hear the name Henry Carus, what springs to mind?
He is the personal injury lawyer who has been streaming into loungerooms and across the airwaves of Victoria for the past 20-odd years, telling viewers that "you deserve more" in a distinct Brooklyn accent although he hails from Havana, Cuba.
Mr Carus and his dedicated team are celebrating not one, but two major milestones. He has been practising law for 40 years and 2023 marks 22 years since the founding of Henry Carus and Associates.
He has built and rebuilt himself through many challenges - think Castro, immigration, Queens and Trump - and refers to his own eccentricity as being "the most non-lawyer lawyer".
Mr Carus has featured in more than 120 TV commercials and 35-plus radio ads - and you may have seen his face on billboards, cinema screens and various stages.
Today, he remains the sole principal of his firm which comprises 60 legal and support staff as he champions personal injury law in the state.
His team operates on a no win, no fee basis because lawyers are expensive but they don't have to be.
"You just need to be represented by someone who puts your needs first. Who chooses to be of service to you. To cater to your needs, and to fight the battle for you while you concentrate on recovering," Mr Carus said.
As an avid reader of everything from Enid Blyton to David Gillespie and M. Scott Peck, perhaps the best analogy here for Mr Carus is "don't judge a book by its cover".
