An exciting new show will combine an all female cast of young acrobats with the animations of cartoonist and feminist Judy Horacek.
Presented by Australia's Flying Fruit Fly Circus, Girls with Altitude will be at Arts Centre Melbourne's Playhouse Theatre for two days only from September 16-17.
The all-girl cast ranges in age from eight to 18 and will present world-class circus skills including flips and tumbles, with true acrobatic elegance.
Directed by Anni Davey, the show aims to challenge widespread preconceptions that circuses are male dominated.
The acrobats will display skill, strength, courage and humour while tackling a number of aspirational themes, ranging from the environment to equality.
The performance will take place in front of a backdrop of projected images of thought provoking feminist cartoons.
The show will be presented with the help of funding from the state and federal governments.
Australian Government through the Australia Council, its arts funding and advisory body and by the NSW Government through Create NSW.
The show will run for 70 minutes with no intervals and is suitable for audiences ages six and above. Tickets range from $28-$39.
