WHAT better way to experience some of Victoria's most historic towns and iconic sights than by train and luxury coach.
Join Travelrite International and The Senior to take in the spectacular Great Ocean Road, the dramatic Grampians, and the fun and colour of Victoria's great goldrush rural cities on this 12-night Rail and Road Discovery Tour of Country Victoria.
Starting at Melbourne's Spencer Street Station, the first leg of the journey is by coach to Geelong. We'll visit Geelong Art Gallery and later hit the beach at Torquay and Bells Beach before arriving in Anglesea for the night.
Then it's time to follow The Great Ocean Road, one of the world's great ocean drives.
We'll pass through the leafy green town of Lorne, Apollo Bay and on to Port Campbell with stops to view the Twelve Apostles and London Arch on the way.
We continue through the Great Otway National Park and Beech Forest to Warrnambool, our base for the next two nights.
There's a trip back in time at Warrnambool's Flagstaff Hill Maritime Village before heading to the quaint, historic town of Port Fairy.
Next stop is Halls Gap, at the centre of the Grampians. There's time to get your outdoors on and embrace the area's many walking trails as well as the main tourist sites.
The next morning the tour heads to Ararat where it's all aboard for an hour-long train ride to Ballarat.
After lunch there's time to familiarise yourself with the goldrush history of this rural city, founded on a rich gold deposit, before visiting the impressive art gallery.
History and nature make for a great day when the group heads to Sovereign Hill, a living museum presenting the story of Ballarat as a goldrush boomtown, and later explores the city's renowned Botanical Gardens.
Then we're back on the rails for a train west to Maryborough before boarding a coach to the Wimmera capital, Horsham. We'll enjoy a town tour and visit the botanical gardens and art gallery
Heading north towards Swan Hill, the coach moves through small towns - Rupanyup, Minyup, Sheep Hills, to name a few - famous for their amazing silo art.
Situated on the south bank of the Murray River, Swan Hill is a delightful city. We'll enjoy a town tour and next day visit the famous Pioneer Settlement.
From Swan Hill the group catches the train for a two-and-a-half hour journey to Bendigo, another impressive rural city founded on gold.
Highlights include the Central Deborah Gold Mine, the Botanic Gardens and a ride on the Bendigo heritage tram.
That evening the train heads for Echuca where we will visit the gin distillery and cruise the Murray River on a paddlewheel steamer.
The tour winds up in Corowa, NSW, before crossing the Murray River to Wahgunyah/Rutherglen for lunch in the vineyards.
The final day is our train journey from Wangaratta back to Melbourne.
This fantastic tour has two departures - October 5-17, 2022, and March 15-27, 2023 - and is priced at $3995 per person twin share (add $950 for single supplement).
