Mask within Australian airport terminals are now no longer required.
In a statement, the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC) said all states and territories had relaxed mask mandates and considered it "no longer proportionate" to continue so in airport terminals.
However, it strongly recommends people to wear them in airports and indoor spaces anyway, in light of how they can help minimise COVID-19 and influenza transmission and protect others, including those who can't get vaccinated or are immunocompromised.
Masks are still required to be worn when onboard an aircraft.
Australian Airports Association chief executive James Goodwin welcomed the announcement.
"Travellers are sensible people, so we are pleased that the decision to wear a mask in an airport is now up to them," he said.
"Wearing a mask onboard an aircraft is still a government requirement, so we encourage all travellers to continue to pack their mask with all their other essentials, follow the rules and comply with any directions from staff."
