Everymind is seeking the help of family and friends who support older Australians when they feel anxious or depressed to better protect everyone's mental health and wellbeing.
"As the Australian population ages, more and more Australians will be supporting their older loved ones when they feel anxious or down," said program manager Dr Sally Fitzpatrick.
"While supporting the wellbeing of older people, family and friends are often at risk of experiencing symptoms of depression or anxiety themselves.
"We want to hear directly from family and friends to learn what will help them in their supporting role. We invite partners, spouses, siblings, children, grandchildren, friends, and neighbours to participate in our short, confidential survey."
Participants will be asked questions about the person they support and how they look after their own wellbeing. They will also be invited to take part in an optional 20-30 minute follow-up interview with one of the researchers.
This research will help inform the development of Everymind's Minds Together initiative that provides free online support programs for family and friends.
Everymind is a leading Institute dedicated to the prevention of mental ill-health and suicide.
