Residents at the Waikerie Lifestyle Village have celebrated the grand opening of their Village Hub.
The $1 million development is positioned as "the place to be" for the residents, their family and friends, as well as their community groups.
Featuring a large multi-purpose living area, kitchen, sitting room, meeting room, bathrooms and gym, The Hub is fully equipped to host day-to-day get togethers, celebratory special occasions and organised group activities.
With residents varied interests and involvement in the local region, their affiliations could see groups such as the Lions Club, Rotary Club and even line dancing inviting the community into the Village.
Waikerie Lifestyle Village CEO, Stephen Edwards, said the development of the Hub will strengthen the pull of retirees wanting a river change to choose Waikerie in the iconic Riverland.
"As residents come from all over Australia to live the retirement they deserve, they bring with them the growing need for connection," Mr Edwards said.
"By inviting the community in we can support our residents in finding likeminded people and groups to connect with, and The Hub now provides the space to allows us to go that step further for our residents."
Waikerie Lifestyle Village Residents are also looking forwards to using The Hub to connect with others.
Residents Charles and Noel said they couldn't wait to invite people in.
"The Hub is perfect for the upcoming winter get togethers."
"We're looking forwards to having our groups here, showing them The Hub and also maybe connecting them with some of the other village residents," they said.
James Bartolo said he was looking forward to having somewhere to go and socialise.
"I'm going to enjoy meeting other residents andsharing a barbecue, even in the colder months now," Mr Bartolo said.
"It's also a great place to go when the family come up to visit."
While the space is not available for hire, local community groups interested in potentially using The Hub should reach out to their Waikerie Lifestyle Village members or contact the village directly.
