Busting for the toilet - and not being able to find one when you're on the go - can be an anxiety-inducing and painful experience.
It's particularly isolating for people living with incontinence, who sometimes choose to stay home because they don't know where public bathrooms are along their journey.
However, the Great Dunny Hunt intends to unblock this issue, in a bid to update the National Public Toilet Map.
Organised by the Continence Foundation of Australia, the public is being called upon to nominate where the country's public toilets are, and what facilities they have. While such information will benefit all communities, it will be especially helpful for the one in four Australians that experience incontinence, as well as the 38 per cent of people living with a disability who are experiencing incontinence.
Participants can enter the hunt by doing the following:
- Go to the National Public Toilet Map
- Find a local toilet and tap its pin
- Select 'More information' (swipe up on an iPhone)
- Select 'Update this facility' (you will need to login or register)
- Tap an icon or update the opening hours, then select 'Update'
Dunny hunters can update the following details for toilets on the map, or add a new toilet:
- Male
- Female
- All gender
- Opening times
- Adult change facilities (including shower, BYO sling)
- Baby change
- Dump point (including wash out water, afterhours access)
- Ambulant facilities
- Drinking water
- Sharps disposal
- Showers
- Sanitary, incontinence product disposal
- Right and/or left transfer - important for those with one side of the body less able
- Master Locksmiths Access Key (MLAK)
Entrants also have the chance to win one of three $500 Eftpos vouchers.
When the same campaign was run last year, 3877 registrations were made, which added 607 new entries to the map.
"This fantastic result assisted in supporting the millions of Australians living with continence-related issues by providing them with a reliable map of public toilets across the country," foundation CEO Rowan Cockerell said.
