A NEW film festival will present a spectacular line up of European films in Melbourne and Sydney in February.
Europa! Europa will run in both cities from February 4-27, in a three week showcase of the best of new European cinema.
The Full festival program is set to be revealed during screenings of Dutch auteur Paul Verhoeven's erotic thriller Benedetta in both cities on January 16.
The film stars Virginie Efira as Benedetta Carlini, a novice nun who joins a convent in 17th century Italy and has a lesbian love affair with another nun.
The film is loosely based on non-fiction book Immodest Acts: The Life of a Lesbian Nun in Renaissance Italy by Judith C. Brown
The Melbourne screening will take place at Classic Cinemas, Elsternwick and the Sydney premiere screening will be at Ritz Cinemas, Randwick, with both screenings to take place at 4pm.
Artistic director Thomas Caldwell said the film's program would showcase the "complexity and wonder" of European cinema to Australian audiences.
"From the countries who have defined arthouse and world cinema, to regions where the film industry is still small and emerging, European cinema is so incredibly rich and diverse," he said.
Program Launch tickets range from $24-$28 and are on sale now.
