GET ready for a change, seniors of Victoria, after a challenging year, it is time to focus on living well.
After a tumultuous 2021 punctuated by lockdowns, Melbourne has been given the go ahead to host the city's first Care and Ageing Well Expo.
The expo will take place at the Melbourne Convention Exhibition Centre on February 12 and 13. It follows on from the success of four Care & Ageing Well Expos that have been held in Perth.
Leading Age Services Australia (LASA) chief executive Sean Rooney said the expo was about helping older Australians to age well with confidence.
Mr Rooney said The Aged Care Royal Commission had pointed out the importance of prioritising technology and advanced care in the industry.
"We are integrating technology into older people's lives, and we are innovating in how we meet the needs of the growing number of older Australians," he said.
"So many things can make our lives better and there are so many high-tech products and services that assist Australians to age well.
The expo will feature 70 to 80 aged care exhibitors offering products and services in a range of areas including: residential care, home care, retirement living, equipment, service providers, health care, legal and financial, medical, consultants, technology and support groups.
Its lifestyle stage will offer information from leading industry experts, panel discussions and Q and A sessions.
The Uniting AgeWell chat lounge places a strong focus on healthy ageing and innovative products to make life easier. It will also host consultations with health professionals and entertainment.
The expo will also offer guidance and training options for people considering careers as carers, with more than 160,000 carers to be needed in the next 10 years.
It will be open from 9.30am-4pm on both days. Entry is free, but pre-registration is encouraged to assist with crowd flow.
