How often should I clean glass panel fencing?
Thanks to the super-durable AAMA 2604 architectural powder coating, glass fence cleaning is only required once or twice a year, depending on where you live.
If you happen to live within two kilometres of the beach, you'll be cleaning your glass fence twice a year, while those further away will only need to clean once a year.
If you've just had your fence installed, however, there's no need to worry about cleaning for the first six months. Once you do start to notice glass stains, it's time to get out the cleaning products.
What cleaning products should I use?
Cleaning glass fences and balustrade is a straightforward process that anyone, even the kids, can do. Start with a bucket of warm water and some regular cleaning detergent.
Without getting too sciencey, Ultralox recommends a non-abrasive, pH neutral (pH 5 to 8) detergent solution. A spray bottle of methylated spirits and water mixed at a ratio of 1:5 is ideal.
Make sure to avoid harsh solvents like paint thinners or solutions containing chlorinated hydrocarbons or ketones, as these can damage glass panels. For those extra tough stains like bird poo, tree sap, or salt staining, rubbing alcohol or isopropyl alcohol is your best friend. Using scrunched up newspaper is an effective way to remove stains without the risk of damaging your glass balustrade.
How to clean a glass balustrade
Using a soft cloth or sponge, start on one side of the fence, cleaning in a vertical direction. Then on the other side, clean horizontally. This will help determine which side of the glass fence a particular stain is on.
After each panel is cleaned, use a squeegee or lint-free towel to polish the glass to remove excess water, smudges and smearing.
