The theme of this year's travelling cartoon exhibition Behind the Lines is "a dog's breakfast", a rather polite way of describing 2020's relentless mix of disruption and uncertainty.
Visitors to the National Cartoon Gallery can put their own spin on the dramatic year as the biannual event returns to the Bunker gallery in Coffs Harbour.
This exhibition, curated by the Museum of Australian Democracy, celebrates the role of political cartoonists and the power their drawings have in contributing to our daily political and social discourse.
This year it comprises 104 cartoons from 36 cartoonists published in a broad range of media outlets, including one from the US.
Happily, amid the drama, cartoonists have also captured moments of good humour to complete a collection that summarises the year that was.
Additions in 2021 include an audiovisual component, an interactive game for all ages and digital GIF cartoons.
The exhibition also features works from this year's MoAD Political Cartoonist of the Year, Cathy Wilcox, from the Sydney Morning Herald and The Age.
The exhibition runs until April 12. Visitors to the gallery are encouraged to explore the new premises and the Bill Leak exhibition in the new Upper Gallery Hall.
