SEPTEMBER 11, 2001 is one of history's darkest days, but a new musical tells a lesser known feel good story tied to the disaster.
Tony and Olivier award-winning musical Come from Away will arrive at QPAC's Lyric theatre for a strictly limited season on March 28.
It tells the story of 7,000 air passengers who were grounded in Gander, Newfoundland in Canada in the wake of the September 11 tragedy.
The small community proceeded to welcome the " come from aways" into their lives, providing them with hope and compassion.
The hit musical was written by husband and wife duo David Hein and Irene Sankoff, who travelled to Newfoundland to interview thousands of locals for the project.
Producer Rodney Rigby from Junkyard Dog Productions said the musical was a timely reminder of humankind's ability to be compassionate in trying times.
"This is a story about unity and about acting with kindness regardless of our differences," he said.
Come from Away is directed by Tony Award winner Christopher Ashley and choreographed by Olivier Award Winner Kelly Devine.
The production will be the first major musical to open in Queensland since the COVID-enforced shutdown.
