BEING restricted to Australia for the time being doesn't mean you can't travel overseas.
Academy Travel, which operates small group cultural tours, has launched Live on Site to help those of us looking for a dose of vicarious travel.
We can now visit Florence, Rome, Venice, Tallinn and Santiago de Compostela in droves - and there are more locations in the pipeline.
Live on Site virtual visits last 90 minutes and combine the talents of an expert lecturer and a top local guide.
In each visit, the lecturer provides background historical context, route maps and in-depth information about specific aspects of the tour.
Upcoming destinations include Herculaneum, Dresden, and the Egyptian temples of Luxor and Karnak. There will also be return visits to ever-popular Italian destinations.
The local guides take their virtual travellers on a walking route highlighting the most significant cultural features of a city or site. The sessions, on the Zoom platform, are moderated and you can ask questions of either the lecturer or the local guide using the chat function.
You can pre-book sessions, which cost $65, and choose from a variety of real-time journeys to some of the world's most beautiful and historic destinations without stepping out of your lounge room.
