IF you are considering a trip to Brisbane, make sure you set aside some time to explore its laneways.
Brisbane boasts a number of hip and trendy laneways in the city centre, Fortitude Valley and South Brisbane areas.
While the laneways are not exactly hidden, every first time traveller should know exactly where to stop and have a look.
Wandering down the laneways and exploring their charming cafes, bars, trendy restaurants and boutique shopping outlets is an ideal way to spend a day in the city.
For those who want some help finding the trendiest spots, Walk Brisbane offers a three-hour laneways café tour in the city centre.
Below is a breakdown of some of the city's most charming laneways:
Burnett Lane (Brisbane city)
This popular lane offers quirky bars, late-night feeds and fancy dining options and runs from George to Albert Street parallel to Queen Street Mall.
Eagle Lane (Brisbane city)
Eagle Lane caters to those looking for a more low key, hole-in-the-wall experience than what you will find in the flashy Eagle St Pier dining precinct.
From coffee windows, to beer and music and Brisbane's first American sports bar the Fat Angel, Eagle lane offers plenty to do, day and night.
Gresham Lane (Brisbane city)
Gresham Lane takes its name from The Gresham Hotel - where Qantas was established and the famous Battle of Brisbane took place, which was demolished after flood damage in 1974.
Attractions include The Gresham whisky bar on the ground floor of the historic NAB Building, a mini food court, streets food, coffee, cafes and great Korean and Vietnamese food.
Albert Lane (Brisbane city)
Also tucked off Queen Street Mall, this laneway is filled with tasty food options - from Italian, to Sinaporean and from Latin inspired fare to sake and dumplings.
California Lane (Fortitude Valley)
The most recent of the Fortitude valley's laneways, California Lane lives up to its name, boasting ample palm trees and summer vibes.
It features great food and coffee options, boutique stores, pop-up shops and markets and the creatively themed Born Creative Studio - a combined barbershop, bar and live music venue.
Winn Lane (Fortitude Valley)
A sneaky laneway tucked off a side street, Winn Lane offers great boutique shopping and burgers.
The lane is a hive of activity on weekends, attracting Brisbane's local creative community to the space behind the historic Shannons Building.
Bakery Lane (Fortitude Valley)
Known as Winn Lane's little sister, this Lane is decorated with small shopfronts offering and cafe tables spilling on to the central space, where people gather to enjoy a wide range of culinary options.
Fish Lane (South Brisbane)
Originally named Soda Water Lane, Fish Lane is the place for adventurous foodies.
The street offers incredible Italian food at Julius Pizzeria, which sits next door to 10-seat gastronomic cocktail bar Maker.
The laneway offers everything from great Vietnamese food, to tasty ribs, trendy wine bars to the ten tap Saccharomyces Beer Cafe.
