With South Australia opening its borders with Western Australia and the Northern Territory, its border with Queensland could be next to open.
South Australia's western and northern borders were reopened to travellers from midnight as the State Government accelerated the easing of COVID-19 restrictions with flights also allowed from Tasmania.
At this stage border restrictions related to NSW, Queensland and Victoria will be lifted on July 20, though SA is looking to an earlier date with Queensland.
SA Premier Steven Marshall said Tuesday a decision to open the Queensland border was also under consideration.
This would open the Birdsville Track from Birdsville to Marree, at least for travellers heading south.
Mr Marshall said South Australia's changes would apply only for travellers coming into SA and it would be up to other states to decide whether similar arrangements would apply for South Australian residents travelling interstate.
"People who are returning from those jurisdictions or coming in from those jurisdictions will not be required to do the 14 days of self-isolation," he said.
Queensland appears set to open its borders at Stage 3 beginning July 10.
