WITH residents across Australia forced to self-isolate, an annual exhibition inviting artists to reflect on the meaning of 'home' is taking on a new dimension.
This is the fourth year the No Place Like Home exhibition has been run by Sydney-based affordable housing not-for-profit Link Housing.
Professional and amateur artists who are Link Housing residents, as well as members of the public, are invited to submit artworks for the exhibition, which will go digital for the first time this year.
The virtual event will feature a walkthrough of the actual exhibition set up in a community art space in Ryde, as well as photographs of the individual artworks showcased on the Link Housing website and social media channels.
"The 'No Place Like Home' exhibition highlights the importance of affordable, safe and secure housing and through art shows how a home can transform lives," said a Link Housing spokesperson.
"The theme takes on new meaning at this time as we all continue to self-isolate in our homes. We invite applicants to reflect on what a home means to them at this time."
North Ryde resident Dorina Petre, 80, is one artist who will be taking part in the event.
The Lane Cove Art Society member - who moved to Australia from Romania in the early 90s - has been holding art classes for Link Housing clients since becoming a resident in 2018.
Mrs Petre is a strong believer in art as a form of self-therapy and hopes her classes give people the confidence to express their talents. She said the classes help create new friends and connections in her housing complex.
"I enjoy running these art classes as it helps the wellbeing of those attending and gives them an opportunity to connect with others," she said.
The No Place Like Home exhibition also gives Link Housing residents the chance to showcase their artworks in professional gallery spaces online. Since it started the exhibition has grown and last year travelled to five galleries across northern Sydney.
It is free to submit an artwork. Anyone interested can fill in an application form available online and return it via email at enquiries@linkhousing.com.au. Applications close 5pm, May 29.
