SPARKS are still flying between elderly Ormiston couple Frank and Pam Gasteen as they approach their 70th wedding anniversary.
Mrs Gasteen said there was a lot of love between the couple and that had been the secret to their long lasting relationship.
The pair have lived together on the bayside for more than 50 years at places like Wynnum, Manly, Cleveland and Ormiston.
They married at St Paul's Presbyterian Church in Brisbane on March 11, 1950.
Mrs Gasteen remembers the long isle on her wedding day and clutching her husband's hand as they prepared to tie the knot.
"By the time I got down the end of the isle, Frank's hand was like a wet fish," she said.
"We were very fortunate to grow up when we did. It seems to be a different code of ethics and morality these days.
"Frank and I became friends before we became lovers. When we decided we wanted to continue in union we got married."
The pair have three kids, eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, with some family members spread out across the globe.
Mrs Gasteen said every day the couple shared together was a new adventure and their love for each other had seen the years roll on seamlessly.
"He is such a good man. He has a great sense of humour," she said.
"Every day is a day of discovery. It has been a wonderful life together."
Mr Gasteen, 96, and his brother established the first drive in dry cleaner in Australia after World War II.
He said they were very popular in the late 1940s, with several people choosing the easy way to get their clothes cleaned.
His advice to the younger generations was to find a good wife, as it would lead to a lifetime of happiness.
The couple will celebrate their anniversary on Wednesday, March 11 with a special morning tea at Aveo Cleveland Gardens.
