ACCLAIMED singer Teddy Tahu Rhodes will headline the inaugural Festival of Outback Opera in Western Queensland from June 26-28.
Tahu Rhodes will perform in a series of concerts during the weekend, including Concert Under the Stars - a large-scale outdoor opera performance, staged against the backdrop of Lake Moondarra.
The New Zealand-born bass-baritone and ARIA and Helpmann Award-winning performer has amassed a large following, having starred in hit opera and musical productions including Don Giovanni, Tosca, The King and I and South Pacific.
He will share the open air stage with an ensemble of Opera Queensland performers including Eva Kong and Jason Barry-Smith, accompanied by the Camerata ensemble.
Opera Queensland chief executive Patrick Nolan said the festival's program would entertain people of all ages.
"The Festival of Outback Opera is a wonderful opportunity to show Queensland that opera as an artform is not confined to theatre stages in capital cities," he said.
"The beauty of opera is its ability to connect with anyone who is excited by great stories and powerful music."
The festival program also includes Opera Queensland's Sing Sing Sing events hosted in regional pubs and an underground opera experience which celebrates Mount Isa's proud mining heritage.
