IT WAS a sound check of a different kind for country music star Troy Cassar-Daley got his hearing examined on a Hearing Australia bus in Tamworth.
The Queensland-based singer-songwriter is used to travelling on tour buses, but this time he was aboard one of the Hearing Australia's big blue buses to launch their 2020 Celebrate Sound Tour.
The tour will see 12 Hearing Australia buses travel across the county to offer 2700 communities free 15-minute hearing checks. The buses are also planning to visit bushfire affected communities bringing support to Hearing Australia clients and anyone needing hearing help.
Hearing Australia ambassador Troy said he wanted to encourage people to get their hearing checked.
"Music and hearing go hand in hand. That's why I'm so committed to raising awareness around hearing health and showing people how easy it is to care for their hearing and celebrate the sounds they love," he said.
"I get my hearing checked every year by the team at Hearing Australia and I urge everyone to do the same."
As part of the Celebrate Sound Tour, Hearing Australia will be offering free hearing checks to adults when they visit the Hearing Australia Bus.
Mr Kim Terrell, Hearing Australia managing director, Kim Terrell, said over 175,000 people have checked their hearing aboard the Hearing Australia buses since the mobile service launched in 2009.
"Our buses visit city centres and smaller regional towns to make it easier for people to get their hearing checked and access information on how to improve their hearing health," said Mr Terrell.
The custom-equipped buses can operate in remote and harsh locations. They are staffed by Hearing Australia teams trained to provide hearing checks and support for people with hearing loss, including access to the latest high quality hearing devices.
Hearing Australia operates in over 600 locations across Australia and is the nation's largest provider of government-funded hearing services for children, young adults up to 26, adults with complex communication needs, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, pensioners and veterans.
A free hearing check is a screening that takes up to 15 minutes to help identify someone who may have a hearing loss. Other services may attract fees or be subsidised for those eligible under the Australian Government Hearing Services Program.
