SENIORS always look forward to the state's annual Seniors Week celebrations in August: but this year there will be even more time to get out and about, with the celebrations lasting the entire month.
Seniors Month will promote positive community attitudes towards older people and ageing, encourage community participation, help build community connections and celebrate the achievements and contributions seniors make, whether as volunteers or in the workforce, as community leaders or carers, grandparents or advocates.
It's a time for seniors to try something new, visit somewhere new, learn, laugh and generally have a great time.
The event is co-ordinated by COTA Queensland, which receives state government funding to plan, run and subsidise events and activities.
Until March 15, community groups, local councils and libraries can apply for up to $1000 to fund Seniors Month events. In all, the government will provide $100,000 in funding.
