DO you fancy a nice day trip and want to give something back to bushfire victims? A new travel package offers the opportunity to do both.
AAT Kings is offering bushfire recovery giveback trips from Sydney to the Shoalhaven area to bring tourists back to bushfire-affected region.
Guests will have plenty of time to wander through the town and are encouraged to participate in the #emptyesky campaign, which encourages visitors to fill their eskies with fresh farm produce or locally made gifts.
Local landholders will also share stories of recovery, so guests will get a first hand insight into how they can help struggling communities.
Highlights of the trip will include a visit to the historic Kangaroo Valley, where guests can buy locally-made preserves, leather goods, antiques or artwork, a stop at Nowra Farmers Market and a private buffet lunch at Bangalay Dining.
The Shoalhaven day trips leave Sydney at 8 am every Friday and Saturday returning between 5 and 6 pm. The cost for concession holders is $100 which includes a full buffet lunch with wine.
Fires have not only destroyed homes and taken lives, but have also destroyed the habitats, agriculture, produce and tourism that many of these communities depend on.
Shoalhaven Council's acting tourism manager Shannan Perry-Hall said the best way to support the community was by booking a trip.
"Visit our friendly cafes and restaurants, our 100 beaches, and our cute boutiques and take gifts back home. Your small break can make a big contribution," Shannan said.
"Most importantly, come with a smile and share beautiful pics with the world and your loved ones."
A handy online resource provides up-to-date information for visitors, including a trip builder and other ways to give back as well as booking your trip to the Shoalhaven.
AAT Kings will release more bushfire recovery trips in coming days and weeks, as the company moves to support other communities to get back on their feet in the long-term.
