BRISBANE is the third best city in the world for seniors to visit, according to a new study by a travel insurance comparison site.
The study by InsureMyTrip analyzed 76 cities, with the Queensland capital scoring highly in criteria such as spaciousness, limited mobility access and peacefulness.
The study involved assessment of each city in a number of key categories, with cities awarded scores out of ten for each one.
Other key categories included choice of senior tours, access to transport services, healthcare and ease of walking.
Brisbane scored 6.88 overall, finishing just behind Edinburgh, Scotland (7.36) and Vienna, Austria (7.33).
Sydney was ranked the 11th best city to visit with a score of 6.61, Melbourne placed 14th (6.57), Perth was 21st (6.42) and Canberra 47th (5.59).
The Indian cities of Mumbai (3.72) and Kolkata (3.79) and Cairo, Egypt (3.79) were the study's three lowest scoring cities.
The site's marketing manager Ronni Kenoian said the study would help give seniors more confidence about planning their holidays.
"We certainly understand that some travellers have specific concerns regarding mobility, healthcare access and other factors," she said.
"We hope seniors and travel planners consider this information in order to make more informed decisions regarding upcoming trips."
