IT'S BEEN described as the ultimate test of physical strength, agility and coordination.
And next month some of the world's top competitive ballroom dancers will be heading to Melbourne to dazzle audiences and compete in the Australian DanceSport Championships.
The 74th championship will see competitive ballroom athletes take to the floor at Margaret Court Arena from December 6-8, with more sequins, poise and glamour than ever before.
DanceSport has been described as the ultimate test of physical strength, agility, co-ordination, stamina, discipline, teamwork, grace, style and musical interpretations. And the glittering event gives Australian athletes the opportunity to compete against globally-recognised contenders on home soil.
Across the three days, professional, adult and junior couples, as well as individual and teacher student pairings, will compete for titles in Standard, Latin American and New Vogue dance styles.
Those competing in the Australian closed and open events will vie for their chance to represent Australia at the World Championships in 2020.
This year's program will feature the championship's first competitive Para DanceSport event featuring West Australian and Victorian para-athletes in standard and Latin American styles.
Danish dance superstar couple Bjorn Bitsch and Perth-grown Ashli Williamson will give performances on the Saturday and Sunday.
